In keeping with this looser, more fun style, I also recently completed this piece. (See it larger here.) It was for a story about a woman who visited her boyfriend's family for Christmas. His mother was a vegetarian, but tried to cook a turkey anyway (to be nice to her guest). It turned out underdone and hot pink. (Sick!) The vegetarian pate she made, however, was great. (The article came with a recipe but I didn't try it.) :)
This was a fun piece to work on. I am liking mixing lots of unmatched patterns lately. And that chandelier keeps showing back up... not sure what's up with that. The cat in the foreground was a nod to my own mother-in-law who's a cat fanatic. I like adding in little bits of personal stuff to my pieces. It's fun to weave in little bits of my own life that go unnoticed with art directors. That's why most of the people I draw have red hair. My daughter has red hair so I just can't help it. Another bit: The rug in the Dance Mag piece in the previous post is my dining room rug... only mine is black and white. I wish it was yellow like the artwork though.
