New illustration for Yoga Journal

Another new illustration. This time for Yoga Journal! So fitting. I loved working on this piece... one of those that just sort of fell out of my head and practically painted itself. The story was for YJ's Om column for an article called Surrender to Ease. In the story, the author writes that she was treating yoga as a competitive sport and injured herself. She was practically in tears as she practiced headstand before finally giving up and doing the modified pose with two chairs at the wall. (That really feels terrific, btw!) Then she started to notice herself surrendering in the pose and feeling happy in her non-competitive muscles.

One line in the story said: "In Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, B.K.S. Iyengar writes, 'A bird cannot fly with one wing. In the same way, we need the two wings of practice and renunciation to soar up to the zenith of Soul realization.'"

Good stuff, my friends. Good stuff.
