Sketchbook Skool

Last week I posted some sneak peeks about Sketchbook Skool coming to film me, but then a few people asked what SBS was and I realized I haven’t really explained it well yet! Whoops!

So here’s the scoop: Sketchbook Skool is kind of like an online art school for artists of all sorts -- from tentative beginners who are just warming up to the idea of drawing anything at all -- to artists who’ve been drawing every day for years and want to further develop their skills or learn new techniques.

Each kourse is six weeks long, and each week is taught by a different teacher. The kourses are all video-based and they are gorgeous and fun! So much care is put into producing these beautiful videos - from the teacher’s introduction to the peek inside their journals. The best part, though, is getting to learn techniques from watching the teachers work. You can pick up so many ideas that way. Just watching other artists work has given me many light-bulb moments and opened new doors with my own art! It’s great to share what we know.

Speaking of sharing… that brings me to the other great thing about SBS. The creative community. These are the students learning the same things at the same time you are. You can share your work on the website or in the Facebook group and get some helpful feedback and comments from those who are doing it, too (and from the teachers who are there to answer questions and offer feedback during the kourse time!). I think the accountability factor of a supportive community is so very helpful when we’re learning.

So now let me tell you about my kourse. Last week Danny Gregory came to my house to shoot me in my studio, doing what I do. In my videos, I introduce myself and tell you about my background. You get to meet my sweet family and walk by the river with me. Then I walk you through some of my illustration techniques, step by step. You can actually see how I make my art and how an illustration comes together. It’s basically like hanging out in my studio making art with me!

I get a lot of messages from people asking about my techniques, and now I have the opportunity to share how I work in beautiful video form. Kind of awesome!

So please sign up! Registration opens January 1st at SketchbookSkool.com. Klasses start January 15th.

If you haven’t asked for anything for Christmas yet, put this on your list! Or just do it for yourself. It’ll be fun. :)
